Protektor v1.0
---------------------------------------------------------------------
copyright 1996 Stand Alone, Inc. & Ben Gottlieb

NOTE: This software is for Newton 2.0 Newtons ONLY.

* What's it do?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
	Protektor will allow you to password protect applications on your Newton, preventing unwanted access to your data. Anytime a password proected application is opened, a window will first appear, asking for the password. If the correct password is entered, the window will close and the application will open. If not, the application will remain closed.

* What's in this archive?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
	There is one Newton software package and two text files in
this archive. They are:
	* Protektr.txt	document you're now reading. 'Nuff said.
	* Protektr.pkg	software package you'll install on your Newton.
	* SAStuff.txt	A list of all Stand Alone products.

* Installing Protektor
---------------------------------------------------------------------
	First off, you must get the Protektor software package onto your
Newton. You can do this using the Newton Connection Utility (for Mac or
Windows), the Newton Package Downloader, or the Newton Backup
Utility. See the documentaion with each of these for more
information on installing packages with them.

* Using Protektor
---------------------------------------------------------------------
	Protektor is very easy to use. After installing, you can set the password for a particular application in one of two ways.

1) Open Protektor, scroll down to the application, and check off the checkbox. A window will open in which you can enter a password. DON'T FORGET THIS PASSWORD. If you do, you will be unable to access this application.

2) Open the Extras Drawer, select the desired application, tap the routing button (the Envelope button). A window will open, and you can enter the desired password.

NOTE: You should probably protect Protektor right after installing, to prevent someone from assigning passwords to your applications.

When entering a password, you can choose between the typewriter keyboard and the numeric keyboard by tapping the "A/1" button to the right of the password line.

* Registering Protektor
---------------------------------------------------------------------
	You have a 30 day trial period in which to examine Protektor, during which it will function fully. At the end of the demo period, all of your protected applications will become unprotected. Should you wish to register, you'll need to do one of the following:

	* Call us and pay using Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. We can give you a
	  password right over the phone: instant gratification! (773) 477-2492.

	* Send us a check for $29.95 to the address below.

	* Using CompuServe, GO SWREG.

	However you register, PLEASE be sure to include an email address
(it's not vital, but it will result in MUCH speedier service) and
your name, as entered in the Owner Info section of your Newton.
This is used to generate the password we send you to unlock Protektor,
so it has to be exact.

	Once you register, you will receive a password from us. To use it,
install the SAS Register package (also enclosed in the Protektor
archive), select "Protektor" from the pop up menu at the top, and enter
the password. You should get a message confirming the password. You
may then remove the SAS Register application from you Newton.
